Herrick does an impressive job capturing the "culture" of mid-teens - the language, topical interests, peer and sibling relationships, and attitudes toward and interactions with adults, especially parents. Her use of the first person point of view gives the reader access to the major character's thoughts and feelings and the turmoil of both that can sometimes be part of the teen experience. In addition, her descriptions of people and settings are rich in the kind of detail that gives the reader a "feel" for the personhood and individuality of characters and the context of the story - an almost Dickensian quality to her descriptions. (BTW, this talent for descriptive writing is consistent in the three books of Herrick's that I have read.)

I recommend this book to both teens and parents of teens. Teens will be able to relate to the content; it will register as authentic. Parents may gain some insights into the inner life of teens - their thinking processes and emotional experiences. Both groups can enjoy an intriguing story and the work of an accomplished writer.

A quick read, not just because of length, but also because both the story and the writing enthrall.                                                                   ~~

"...Ann Herrick has created a wonderful romance designed for teens while telling a true coming of age tale of young love, young jealousies and realizing what one is and is NOT ready for...Ann Herrick writes...Teen/YA books that feel real, that address the inner turmoil of youth while maintaining a great pace, wonderful summer scenes and the feel that she writes from her heart to yours."

“…a fun and flirty summer book that readers can absolutely devour…it's really easy to get into the setting, which is always an enjoyable quality for a novel to have. Throughout my time reading, I could envision long summer days at the beach so vividly, it was like actually being there along with the characters…the story is actually quite unique. It really is a great read to get in the spirit of summer.
